Vietnam considers new paid holidays in Labor Code amendments

The Committee on Culture and Social Affairs of the National Assembly is reviewing proposed amendments to the Labor Code. One significant proposal includes designating July 27, War Invalids and Martyrs Day, as a paid public holiday for workers.

Additionally, the amendments seek to institutionalize November 24 as ‘Vietnam Culture Day,’ which would also be a paid holiday. This move aims to honor national cultural values and encourage public participation in cultural and artistic activities.

Regarding administrative changes, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Cao Huy noted that the draft law proposes transferring the authority to define the functions, tasks, and organizational structure of the National Wage Council from the Government to the Prime Minister. The responsibility for announcing annual holiday schedules would also be transferred to the Minister of Home Affairs, to be completed before September 30 of the preceding year.
