Vietnam public holiday and Labor Code proposals

Overview

The Vietnamese Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed various holiday schedules for 2027. For the Lunar New Year (Tet), the Ministry presented two options: a seven-day break from February 4 to February 10, or a ten-day break from February 5 to February 14 involving a swapped working day. The proposal also includes a four-day break for National Day and a three-day break for New Year’s Day.

Concurrently, the National Assembly is reviewing amendments to the Labor Code that could introduce new paid public holidays. These proposed additions include July 27, War Invalids and Martyrs Day, and November 24, designated as ‘Vietnam Culture Day.’

Administrative changes are also under consideration, such as transferring the authority to define the National Wage Council’s structure from the Government to the Prime Minister. Additionally, the responsibility for announcing annual holiday schedules would be moved to the Minister of Home Affairs, with a requirement to finalize these schedules before September 30 of the preceding year.
