Vietnam Defense Ministry Proposes New Local Military Command Positions

The Ministry of Defence has drafted amendments to add three positions—Commander, Deputy Commander, and Deputy Political Officer—to the basic officer cadre of commune‑level military commands. The proposal is part of a broader project revising nine laws on military and defence, currently under review by the Ministry of Justice.

In the same draft, the ministry seeks to raise the maximum service age for reserve officers: Lieutenant Colonel to 57, Colonel to 59, and General to 63, among other adjustments.
