Tran Van Thuan, Vietnam Deputy Minister of Health, arrested for bribery

Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Health, Tran Van Thuan, has been prosecuted and arrested for bribery. The Economic Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security issued the arrest warrant and search order on September 2, 2026, following approval from the Supreme People's Procuracy.

The investigation is an expansion of a larger case involving serious accounting violations and smuggling at Viet My Medical Investment Joint Stock Company. Authorities allege that Thuan received a large sum of money in bribes.

Thuan, a medical professional specializing in oncology, has held several high-profile positions, including Director of K Hospital. In his role as Deputy Minister, he was responsible for critical sectors such as medical examination and treatment, organ transplantation, and the management of several major central hospitals.
