Vietnam Deputy Health Minister Trần Văn Thuấn suspended amid bribery probe
Trần Văn Thuấn, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Health and Chairman of the National Medical Council, has been suspended from his duties. The suspension follows a decision by the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Public Security’s Economic Police are investigating a case involving “violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences and smuggling” at Viet My Medical Investment Joint Stock Company and related entities. As part of an expanded investigation, authorities have officially prosecuted Mr. Thuấn for “receiving bribes” under Article 354 of the Penal Code, alleging he accepted large sums of money.
Following approval from the Supreme People’s Procuracy, law enforcement executed arrest warrants and search orders. Investigators are continuing to examine the scale and role of the accused to clarify the nature of the case and recover state assets.
