Vietnam Ministry of Education promotes AI integration in higher education

Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training is pushing for the deep integration of artificial intelligence (AI) across higher education. At a national workshop, Deputy Minister Le Quan emphasized that AI should not be treated as an isolated subject but should be integrated into diverse curricula, including economics, law, and health sciences. The goal is to shift the educational focus from mere knowledge transmission to developing digital competency, problem-solving, and creative thinking.

Universities are encouraged to develop five-year AI application plans covering both teaching and administrative management. The Ministry intends to research an evaluation index to measure AI application levels, aiming to optimize operations and reduce indirect costs. Meanwhile, institutions like Duy Tan University have already begun launching AI products specifically designed for training and examination purposes.

As AI becomes a common tool for students, educators are highlighting the importance of using it as a ‘24/7 tutor’ rather than a tool for academic dishonesty. There are growing concerns regarding the impact of AI-generated content on students' critical thinking skills, prompting calls for students to use the technology to guide their learning process rather than replacing independent thought.
