Vietnam develops strategic maritime economy and deep-water ports
Vietnam is advancing a strategic vision to integrate maritime economic development with the protection of national sovereignty. The nation’s extensive coastline, spanning over 3,260 km and including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, serves as a vital resource for socio-economic development, tourism, and national defense.
To support this growth, the country is prioritizing the development of deep-water port clusters across three regions. In the North, the Lach Huyen terminal in Hai Phong is a primary focus for investment through 2030, with Nam Do Son identified as a potential new growth driver. Central Vietnam is looking toward Lien Chieu Port in Da Nang to serve as an international gateway, while the South focuses on the Cai Mep - Thi Vai complex and the Can Gio international transshipment port.
These infrastructure developments aim to connect Vietnam more effectively to global supply chains and enhance the country’s role in renewable energy, oil and gas, fisheries, and maritime transport.
