Vietnam economic outlook: Green credit rises and GDP forecasts increase

Vietnam's green credit reached over 856 trillion VND by the end of June 2026, representing a 9.87% increase compared to the end of 2025. According to the State Bank of Vietnam, this amount accounts for approximately 4.2% of total credit outstanding. The primary sectors attracting green capital include agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and biodiversity conservation, which together account for over 31% of green credit, followed by green energy at nearly 28%.

Separately, UOB Bank has raised its economic forecasts for Vietnam. The bank projects a 9.2% GDP growth for 2026 and has increased its 2027 growth forecast from 8.4% to 8.8%. This adjustment follows a strong third quarter in 2026, where GDP grew by 9.95% year-on-year. To reach a full-year target of 10% growth, the economy would require a quarterly growth rate of 12.5% to 13% in the final quarter of 2026. Potential risks to this outlook include energy price volatility, shifts in US tariff policies, and infrastructure constraints.
