Vietnam economy grows 9.01% in first nine months of 2026

Vietnam's economy demonstrated strong performance in the first nine months of 2026, with GDP growing by 9.01% year on year. Growth was driven significantly by the industry and construction sectors, which contributed 49.62% to the overall increase in value added. The tourism sector also saw a notable rise, welcoming over 17.68 million international visitors, a 14.5% increase compared to the previous year.

International financial institutions have provided varying positive outlooks for the remainder of the year. The World Bank forecasts 2026 GDP growth at 7.4%, citing the impact of the AI wave. The Asian Development Bank has raised its forecast to 7.8%, while Standard Chartered predicts growth could reach 10.6% in the second half of 2026.

In a significant milestone for national creditworthiness, R&I has upgraded Vietnam's foreign currency issuer rating to BBB- with a stable outlook, marking the country's first entry into the investment grade category. This upgrade reflects the nation's economic resilience, fiscal capacity, and ongoing reforms.
