Vietnam Education Minister orders staff resolution after school restructuring

Vietnam’s Minister of Education and Training, Hoàng Minh Sơn, has directed local authorities to manage personnel transitions and resolve benefits for staff following a major restructuring of public schools. The Minister emphasized the importance of psychological work and ensuring unity among staff to prevent internal conflict, requesting that provinces report their progress to the Ministry by October 15.

According to reports from the Ministry, all 34 provinces and cities have implemented school reorganization. This process has reduced the number of public educational institutions by 50.6%, from 37,530 down to 18,555. The restructuring has resulted in 13,518 multi-campus institutions and 2,418 schools serving multiple educational levels.

The reorganization has led to a reduction of 33,870 management positions. Of these, 21,009 individuals have been reassigned as teachers, 3,559 have retired, 479 have transferred to other roles, and 8,823 are currently undergoing placement processes. While the number of legal entities has decreased, the Ministry noted that necessary teaching sites and branches are being maintained to ensure student access to education.
