Vietnam Education Ministry moves to reform high‑school graduation exam after Tuyen Quang scandal

After irregularities in the scoring of the mathematics component at the Tuyen Quang Specialized High School, Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training is conducting a comprehensive review of the national high‑school graduation exam (THPT) slated for 2026. The ministry intends to finalize clear rules on test design, answer keys and supervision while leaving logistical tasks such as printing, invigilation and marking to provincial authorities.

Proposals under discussion include establishing independent testing centres, expanding digital and data‑driven assessment tools, and adopting a cautious, legally‑based approach to any possible retake of the mathematics paper. Officials stressed that any decision must follow the exam regulations, assess the impact on students, and protect the rights of those not at fault. Deputy Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu called for a solution that is both legally sound and fair to avoid creating new injustices.
