Vietnam Electricity advances renewable energy and fuel security initiatives

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is engaging in strategic discussions to bolster the nation's energy sector through both renewable energy partnerships and the stabilization of traditional fuel supplies.

EVN Deputy General Director Ngo Son Hai met with Andre Fernandes, Asia-Pacific Regional CEO of EDP Renewables (EDPR). EDPR, a member of the Portuguese EDP Group, currently operates 458 MWp of solar power in Khanh Hoa province. The two parties discussed potential cooperation in renewable energy projects, specifically focusing on solar power and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Discussions also covered the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism and investor selection processes under Decree 115/2024.

Separately, senior leadership from EVN and the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (TKV) conducted an inspection of the Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant. Led by EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An and TKV Chairman Ngo Hoang Ngan, the delegation reviewed production activities and long-term coal supply security. The inspection included a review of coal storage, port reception, and unloading processes. As of August 22, 2026, the plant had received 3.12 million tons of imported coal via 49 shipments, maintaining a coal inventory of 548,000 tons.
