Vietnam enacts strict AI journalism rules and parental online account requirements for 2026
From 1 July 2026 Vietnam will tighten control over artificial‑intelligence use in the media. Under Decree 237, news organisations must label any AI‑generated or AI‑edited text, images, audio or video, store activity logs and retain full editorial responsibility for AI‑assisted content. The decree also bans AI use for false or harmful information that could threaten national security or public order, while allowing media outlets to expand into digital services under strict oversight.
The same date marks the extension of parental responsibility for children under 16 using value‑added online services. According to the 2025 Cybersecurity Law, parents or guardians must register a social‑media or other online account in their own name and supervise the child’s activity. The rule expands the earlier requirement that applied only to social‑media platforms, covering a broader range of digital services, but does not prohibit children from accessing them.
Both measures aim to increase transparency, protect consumers and reinforce state oversight of digital content and services.
