Vietnam enhances agricultural value through OCOP and digital commerce
Agricultural development in Vietnam is increasingly focusing on the ‘One Commune, One Product’ (OCOP) program to enhance the value of local specialties through deep processing and digital integration.
In Lao Cai province, entrepreneur Dang Thi Kim Oanh has launched a project to develop a VietGAP-standard kumquat value chain. By transitioning from selling only fresh fruit to deep processing, the project utilizes a 3.6-hectare raw material area to produce diverse products such as kumquat syrup, honey-infused kumquat, and specialty sauces. This approach aims to mitigate the risks of seasonal price fluctuations and low added value associated with traditional fresh fruit sales.
Simultaneously, Lai Chau province is accelerating the digital transformation of its OCOP products. Local authorities are working with businesses and cooperatives to bring regional goods onto e-commerce platforms like Shopee, Lazada, Postmart, and Voso. Efforts include training producers in digital skills, livestreaming, and branding, as well as implementing QR code traceability to connect rural producers directly with national consumers.
