Vietnam establishes criteria for green and circular economy projects

The Vietnamese government has issued Decision No. 46/2026/QD-TTg, establishing official criteria for identifying green projects and circular economy projects. This decision also mandates the application of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks to relevant projects, providing a legal basis for promoting sustainable development.

In the agricultural sector, these criteria focus on resource recovery and biomass utilization. This includes the collection and recycling of agricultural and forestry by-products to transform waste into valuable inputs for new production chains. Additionally, forums in Nghệ An have highlighted the need for low-emission rice cultivation models to mitigate environmental impact while maintaining productivity.

Regional initiatives are also aligning with these standards. In Lâm Đồng, business forums are promoting the dual transition of green and digital transformation, emphasizing that ESG compliance and traceability are becoming essential requirements for businesses to access global value chains.
