Vietnam expands AI traffic cameras and real‑time alerts for road violations

Provincial police in Bac Ninh posted a list of 377 vehicles identified by traffic‑monitoring cameras between 4‑10 July 2026, including 58 red‑light runs and 175 lane‑line violations. Cao Bằng province added 62 further violations recorded from 8‑14 July. The offences are subject to fines ranging from 400,000 to 22 million VND under Decree 168/2024.

In Hanoi, the traffic police have rolled out an AI‑driven command centre that analyses data from thousands of cameras and drives 36 large LED screens at busy intersections. The screens display real‑time congestion warnings and safety messages, for example, "thông tin về tình hình giao thông ở các nút giao phía trước được hiển thị, cảnh báo theo thời gian thực." The system is part of Phase 2 of the Smart Traffic project, aiming to improve road safety and traffic flow through digital technology.
