Vietnam expands EV charging stations on North‑South highway

The Vietnam Road Administration has submitted a report to the Ministry of Construction detailing the rollout of electric‑vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at rest stops along the North‑South highway from Thanh Hóa to Cà Mau. A total of 21 charging stations are planned, with 10 charging poles on each side of the rest area, each pole offering two ports – up to 20 charging spots per side and 40 per station.

Petrolimex is installing stations at nine locations, the first at Mai Sơn (QL45, km 329+700) already in service with 20 ports per side. Several other sites are under construction, while Futabuslines‑Thành Hiệp Phát, Xuân Khiêm, T&T‑19/5‑Trung Phương‑Đông Bắc, Minh Đăng, Châu Thành TTC and INDEL‑Bình An are each responsible for additional rest stops, some of which have begun installing poles and others are slated for future deployment. Each station reserves 18 positions for VinFast vehicles and two for other EVs. Investors also pledge to study green‑energy options such as solar‑panel roofs, battery storage and fast‑charging technologies to support Vietnam’s transition to greener transport.
