Vietnam expands health insurance benefits starting July 2026

Effective July 1, 2026, new health insurance regulations in Vietnam will expand benefits for millions of participants. Based on the Law on Health Insurance and recent government decrees, the updates aim to reduce financial burdens and improve access to medical services.

A key change involves outpatient care: patients at certain basic and specialized medical facilities will now receive 50% coverage for specific disease groups previously excluded from reimbursement. Additionally, several benefits are tied to an adjusted base salary of 2.53 million VND per month.

Under the new rules, participants receive 100% coverage if a single medical visit costs less than 15% of the base salary (379,500 VND). Those with five consecutive years of continuous health insurance will also have 100% of their costs covered if their annual co-payment exceeds six times the base salary (15,180,000 VND). The new policy also clarifies reimbursement rates for technical services and medical equipment costs.
