Vietnam expands health‑insurance coverage for out‑of‑network outpatient visits

Starting 1 July 2026, Vietnam’s health‑insurance fund will reimburse 50 % of the applicable benefit level for outpatient care received outside a patient’s designated health‑care network at specified central hospitals. The reimbursement is calculated as the cost of the visit multiplied by the insured’s benefit rate (80 %, 95 % or 100 %) and then by 50 %. The policy applies to a list of central hospitals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and several provinces, as well as certain university‑affiliated and police‑medical hospitals.

In parallel, more than 1,200 Vietnamese health facilities—about 74 % of all clinics—have launched electronic medical‑record systems, accelerating the sector’s digital transformation. Health officials also warned of heightened risk of Japanese encephalitis during the summer season, urging vigilance against the mosquito‑borne disease.
