Vietnam expands infrastructure projects to attract international investment
Vietnam is entering a significant development phase for the 2026-2030 period, characterized by an increasing demand for medium- and long-term capital to fund large-scale infrastructure projects. Key sectors targeted for expansion include strategic transportation networks, urban infrastructure, energy, and the digital economy.
Major projects driving this demand include the Gia Binh International Airport, which has a total investment of approximately 196,378 billion VND. The project is being implemented in stages, with initial components aimed at serving APEC 2027. By 2030, the airport is expected to handle 30 million passengers and 1.6 million tons of cargo annually. Some related flight operation facilities are being developed through public-private partnership (PPP) models.
Additionally, the Ministry of Construction has proposed including four major railway projects in the national list of projects seeking foreign investment for 2026-2030. These projects—Bien Hoa – Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho – Ca Mau, Mu Gia – Vung Ang, and Thap Cham – Da Lat—have a combined estimated investment of 445,100 billion VND (approximately 17 billion USD). These railway developments are also proposed to utilize the PPP model to attract international capital.
