Vietnam expands southern infrastructure through major bridge projects

Vietnam is undergoing significant infrastructure expansion through the development of extensive bridge networks, particularly in the southern regions. In the connection between Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, a network of 45 road axes, including highways and ring roads, is being utilized or developed. Key existing structures include the Dong Nai Bridge on National Highway 1A, the Long Thanh Bridge, and the Thu Bien Bridge. New large-scale projects such as the Phuoc An, Cat Lai, and Long Hung bridges are currently under construction to enhance connectivity.

In the Mekong Delta, the transition from ferry services to modern cable-stayed bridges has transformed regional logistics. Major milestones include the Mỹ Thuận 1 Bridge, which opened in 2000, followed by the Cần Thơ Bridge in 2010, and the Cao Lãnh and Vàm Cống bridges completed between 2018 and 2019. The upcoming Rạch Miễu 2 bridge, expected in 2025, will continue this trend of replacing traditional ferry crossings with high-capacity corridors to stimulate economic growth and regional integration.
