Vietnam Extends E5 Bio‑fuel Availability as E10 Rolls Out Nationwide
The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that bio‑fuel E5 will continue to be sold nationwide until the end of 2030 to support older vehicles that are not compatible with the newer E10 blend. An app called “Quanh tôi” now lists more than 400 stations offering E5 RON92, though major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City have only one or two outlets and Hanoi about eleven.
From 1 June 2026, bio‑fuel E10 replaces conventional RON95 gasoline across Vietnam. Officials reported no negative consumer feedback in the first week of nationwide sales; most inquiries concerned fuel quality and vehicle compatibility. Early data show stable and growing E10 consumption, while over 141 million litres of E5 were sold in the initial days, accounting for more than 93 % of total fuel sales.
Petrolimex and PVOIL set regional prices for E10 (approximately VND 23 230‑23 690 per litre in zone 1 and VND 22 330‑22 770 in zone 2). The government plans to adopt a unified price formula based on world oil prices, ethanol costs, import expenses and survey data. E5 RON92 will remain available until 31 December 2030, after which only E10 variants will be on the market.
