Vietnam accelerates key road and airport link projects

The Ministry of Construction in Vietnam has intensified reforms, cutting administrative procedures and issuing multiple decrees to ease development for citizens and businesses.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the multi‑billion‑dong My Thủy interchange—intended to connect Nguyen Thi Định, Dong Van Công and Ring Road 2—remains incomplete. Phase 3 began in March 2025 with a target finish by April 2026, but compensation and land‑acquisition delays have pushed the schedule to the third quarter of 2026.

In the capital region, the upgrade of National Road 21B, a 41.77 km corridor serving the southern suburbs of Hanoi, has cleared a six‑year land‑acquisition bottleneck. With 82 % of construction completed, authorities are fast‑tracking the remaining 520 m stretch to finish the six‑lane, 35 m wide road, aiming to improve traffic flow and support local economic growth.

In Dong Nai province, officials are urging faster completion of two major links to Long Thanh International Airport. The 2.65 km Road 25C, costing about VND 877 billion, is being rushed to open by October 2026, while the 11.2 km segment of Ring Road 3, valued at VND 2.584 trillion, targets full completion by September 2026. Land‑acquisition issues at key junctions remain the primary obstacle.

These coordinated efforts reflect Vietnam’s push to modernise its transport network ahead of the airport’s 2026 launch and to reduce congestion in its major cities.
