Vietnam endures June heatwave with temperatures topping 39 °C

The national weather service warns that a widespread heatwave is gripping northern and central Vietnam in early June 2026. Forecasts show daytime highs of 35‑38 °C across the north, with extreme readings of 39‑41 °C recorded at several stations such as Yên Châu (39.7 °C) and Láng, Hanoi (41.4 °C). Multiple heat‑wave episodes are expected throughout the month, with at least two to three major spikes and a continued rise in average June temperatures of 0.5‑1 °C above the long‑term mean.

Health officials highlight heightened risks of heat‑stroke, dehydration and cardiovascular events, especially for the elderly, children and outdoor workers. The heat also raises fire danger in residential areas and forests, and amplifies electricity demand. Accompanying the heat, heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail and strong winds are forecast for the central and southern regions, including Ho Chi Minh City, bringing flood and landslide hazards. A brief cooling may arrive when a north‑east wind is expected around 8‑9 June, but temperatures are likely to stay elevated through the week.

The agency advises the public to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and stay alert to severe weather warnings.
