Vietnam restores war hero portraits for families

In Hai Phong’s Chí Minh ward, a team of FPT College students restored more than 60 faded photographs of fallen soldiers for relatives, reviving the faces of heroes after decades. The project, called “Nối màu áo lính,” was initiated by local youth leaders after learning of the initiative online and received support from the commune and district authorities.

A separate effort in Ho Chi Minh City, led by the volunteer group Team Lee together with the city command, delivered 19 newly restored portraits to families in the Tam Thắng ward. Recipients described the experience as deeply moving; 96‑year‑old Hoàng Thị Cưu, wife of the late Ngô Văn Gát, whispered, “Ông về đi…”, while others cried upon seeing their loved ones’ faces clearly rendered again. The restorations blend careful digital work with a sense of gratitude toward those who sacrificed for the nation.
