Vietnam farmers adapt crops and aquaculture to mitigate flood damage
Agricultural and aquaculture sectors in Vietnam are implementing recovery and prevention measures following significant natural disaster impacts. In Lao Cai province, heavy rains and flooding since the beginning of 2026 have affected approximately 2,355 hectares of agricultural and forestry land, resulting in losses exceeding 295 billion VND. To mitigate these losses and restore livelihoods, local authorities and farmers are adjusting seasonal schedules and diversifying crop structures.
In Quang Tri province, officials are focusing on proactive safety measures for aquaculture, particularly cage farming in rivers and lakes. Given the risks of rising water levels and strong currents during the storm season, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is advising farmers to reinforce cage structures, anchors, and floats to prevent the loss of aquatic livestock and mitigate environmental shocks caused by sudden changes in water quality.
