Vietnam financial markets face rising costs and enhanced surveillance
Vietnam's financial landscape is facing dual pressures from rising capital costs and the need for enhanced market transparency as the country prepares to enter the secondary emerging markets group.
Global economic conditions, including potential inflation driven by Middle East conflicts and tightening monetary policies from the Bank of Japan and the U.S. Federal Reserve, are contributing to higher interest rates. In Vietnam, domestic banks have begun increasing deposit rates, reflecting liquidity pressures and rising capital costs that impact investment decisions.
To support its transition to an emerging market, the Vietnam Stock Exchange (VNX) is implementing strengthened surveillance mechanisms. These measures aim to monitor trading activity before, during, and after index rebalancing periods to prevent market manipulation and ensure transparency. Experts emphasize that improving data connectivity and cross-market surveillance capabilities will be essential to maintaining international investor confidence as foreign trading volumes are expected to increase.
