Vietnam stock market integration

Overview

In late July 2026 Vietnam marked the 26th anniversary of its first stock‑exchange transaction, highlighting the market’s shift to an electronic platform and its role as a long‑term financing source. The government stressed developing a domestic capital market to lessen reliance on bank credit.

On 21 August 2026 FTSE Russell confirmed that Vietnamese equities would be moved from the FTSE Frontier Index into the FTSE Global Equity Index Series, reflecting compliance with global market‑access standards. The upgrade is projected to draw about US$1.5 billion of passive‑fund inflows, giving Vietnam roughly 0.03 % weight in the FTSE Global All‑Cap.

The same day VIX (Vietstock Securities JSC) announced a dividend‑share issuance of more than 122 million new shares, raising its charter capital to VND 25.7 trillion. Despite a 95 % year‑on‑year drop in pre‑tax profit for Q2 2026, the company aims for a pre‑tax profit of VND 3.5 trillion for the year.
