Vietnam focuses on digital government and data security
A conference held in Hanoi, co-sponsored by the Central Policy and Strategy Commission and the National Cybersecurity Association, addressed digital transformation in Vietnam’s public sector. The event focused on building sustainable infrastructure and ensuring data security to meet national growth targets.
Nguyen Hong Hien, director of the Department of Science and Technology under the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, noted that science, technology, and innovation are key drivers of the new growth model. He highlighted that the two-tier local government model implemented since July 2025 requires significant restructuring of data and digital systems to ensure continuity and consistency in public services.
Vietnam aims to fully digitize administrative records and standardize databases for AI applications by 2030. However, current challenges include fragmented data, uneven quality, and limited interoperability between existing systems.
