Vietnam focuses on energy efficiency to boost economic growth
Experts emphasize that improving energy efficiency is critical for Vietnam's economic growth and national energy security. As economic demand increases, relying solely on new energy sources creates significant pressure on capital, resources, and the environment.
According to Dang Hai Dung of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, efficient energy use reduces production costs and eases pressure on the supply system. Nguyen Dinh Hiep, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Energy Conservation and Efficient Use (VECEA), noted that the industrial sector consumes over 50% of total energy but still holds a 10-20% savings potential through technological and management improvements.
In public buildings, hotels, and commercial centers, electricity savings potential could reach 35-40%. Achieving equivalent efficiency through savings is estimated to cost only about one-fourth of the investment required to build a new 1 MW power source.
