Vietnam PM Le Minh Hung travels to Russia for ASEAN‑Russia summit
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will lead Vietnam's senior delegation to the ASEAN‑Russia high‑level summit in Kazan on 17‑18 June 2026, marking the 35th anniversary of the partnership. It is his first overseas trip as prime minister and the first Vietnamese prime‑ministerial visit to Russia since assuming office.
The meeting, convened at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, aims to deepen a comprehensive strategic partnership that includes trade, science, technology, digital transformation, energy, non‑traditional security, education, tourism and people‑to‑people exchange. Vietnam will also promote broader ASEAN cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union, leveraging its 2015 FTA with the bloc.
Vietnam plans to act as the coordinating hub for ASEAN‑Russia relations for the 2027‑2030 period, seeking a balanced, results‑oriented approach that benefits businesses and local communities. The prime minister is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Putin and leaders of the Republic of Tatarstan during the summit.
