Vietnam Grants Unlimited-Term ID Cards to Citizens Turning 58‑60 by 2026

Under a new provision of Vietnam’s ID‑card law, citizens who will reach ages 58, 59 or 60 before the end of 2026 – specifically those born in 1966, 1967 or 1968 – may obtain a national ID card with no future renewal deadline. The rule applies when the card is reissued within two years before any of the standard age milestones (14, 25, 40, 60). After the 60‑year milestone, the card remains valid indefinitely, except in cases of loss, damage or major personal‑information changes.

The process is fully digital: applicants can verify their data, schedule appointments and submit requests through the VNeID mobile app or the national e‑service portal. Online services also allow users to report lost or damaged cards and update address information without visiting a office, streamlining the renewal for senior citizens.
