Vietnam health authorities warn of rising infectious disease cases

Health authorities in Vietnam are issuing warnings regarding various infectious diseases. In Hanoi, the CDC reported 309 dengue fever cases between August 14 and August 21, occurring across 65 wards and communes. While this represents a slight weekly decrease, officials warn that cases may continue to rise following annual epidemic cycles. Hanoi has recorded 1,907 dengue cases so far this year with no deaths. Other reported illnesses in the city include 176 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease, 10 cases of measles, 4 cases of pertussis, and 191 cases of COVID-19.

In Ho Chi Minh City, health officials are highlighting risks associated with seasonal changes and environmental factors. The HCDC has warned of increased gastrointestinal diseases, such as diarrhea, following flooding, advising strict hygiene and water safety. Additionally, authorities noted a rise in conjunctivitis (pink eye) due to humid weather and close contact in schools and workplaces. Medical experts also identified high-risk groups for meningococcal disease, including infants, adolescents, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
