Vietnam healthcare sector shifts toward preventive care and lean management

Vietnam's healthcare sector is undergoing strategic shifts toward preventive care and optimized management. At a recent workshop organized by the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City, experts emphasized a "Lean before Digitalization" approach. This strategy focuses on optimizing clinical processes and eliminating waste—such as redundant procedures and long wait times—before implementing technology to avoid "digitizing waste."

On a national policy level, the health sector is transitioning from curative care to proactive prevention in accordance with recent central government resolutions. A national action plan for 2026-2035 aims to tackle rising cancer rates, specifically targeting breast and cervical cancer. Goals include ensuring 90% of girls aged 9-15 receive the HPV vaccine and increasing screening rates for women. Additionally, health authorities are addressing modern public health challenges, such as the rising prevalence of myopia in children due to increased electronic device usage.
