Vietnam heatwave pushes temperatures above 40 °C across central and northern regions

The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) reports that a severe heat wave has gripped Vietnam, with temperatures surpassing 40 °C in several provinces. On 20 June, Tĩnh Gia (Thanh Hóa) recorded 40.4 °C and Hương Kê (Hà Tĩnh) hit 40 °C. Other high readings include 39.1 °C in Kỳ Anh (Hà Tĩnh), 40 °C in Đông Hà (Quảng Trị) and 39.6 °C in Tuy Hòa (Đắk Lắk). The extreme heat persisted on 21–22 June, extending from Thanh Hóa to Đà Nẵng and eastward to Quảng Ngãi and Đắk Lắk, with widespread temperatures of 36‑38 °C and localized peaks above 40 °C.

Forecasts indicate the heat will continue through the end of the month, affecting the northern, central and southern regions. Authorities warn of heightened fire‑risk as dry conditions combine with increased electricity use, and advise the public to guard against dehydration and heat‑related illness during prolonged outdoor activity.
