Northern Vietnam braces for heavy rain and extreme heat early June

The Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasts warned that heavy rain will affect the northern region from the night of June 3 into the early morning of June 5, with localized downpours described as "very heavy" and rainfall totals exceeding 100 mm in some stations. The agency highlighted the risk of flash flooding, landslides and urban inundation, especially in low‑lying areas.

Simultaneously, a heatwave continues across the north and central Vietnam, with temperatures reaching 35‑39 °C and a few locations topping 40 °C. The hot spell is expected to last until June 7‑8 in the north and June 8 in the central region, raising concerns for health, particularly among the elderly, children and outdoor workers.

In contrast, the southern provinces and the Central Highlands are experiencing moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms and occasional hail, with gusty winds reaching force‑6 to force‑8 and sea states of 2‑4 m in the eastern South China Sea. Authorities have issued warnings for localized flooding, strong winds and tornado‑like phenomena, urging residents and fishermen to stay informed and take precautions.
