Vietnam awards heroic mother titles and advances search for unidentified war remains

On 24 July 2026, Cà Mau province held a ceremony to confer the state honor "Mother of Vietnam Heroic" on four mothers who lost spouses or children in the fight for independence. The ceremony also awarded the Resistance Medal to eight fallen soldiers, acknowledging their sacrifice. Names of the honored mothers and soldiers were announced, and officials pledged continued support for families of war heroes.

In Lào Cai province, authorities intensified a 500‑day campaign to locate and identify unidentified war remains. The provincial directing board handed over 821 skeletal samples for DNA testing and reported the excavation of 1,251 graves across 16 cemeteries. Nine additional remains were recovered at a high‑altitude site, and support measures such as housing repairs for families affected by chemical weapons exposure were launched.
