Infant Rescued After Choking on Tamarind Seed at Nghệ An Hospital

On July 29, a 16‑month‑old boy, Nguyễn Đức Nguyên Kh., began choking on a tamarind seed while eating. He was rushed to Phong‑Da Liễu T. Ư Quỳnh Lập Hospital in Hoàng Mai, Nghệ An, where doctors found him in severe respiratory distress.

The emergency team activated a code and performed the Heimlich maneuver, followed by direct laryngoscopy under short‑term anesthesia. They discovered the seed lodged at the glottis and successfully removed it, stabilizing the child’s breathing. After a brief monitoring period, the infant’s condition remained stable and he was discharged home. Doctors emphasized the need for careful supervision of young children with hard foods and for immediate medical attention if choking signs appear.
