ASIAD 2026 concludes with China first and Vietnam 20th

The 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 2026) in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, has concluded with China finishing first in the medal standings with 169 gold medals. Host nation Japan secured second place with 83 gold medals, followed by South Korea in third with 39 gold medals.

Vietnam finished 20th overall, earning a total of 25 medals: 3 gold, 3 silver, and 19 bronze. Notably, Vietnam's gold medals came from sepak takraw and karate. While the wushu team showed improvement by securing 5 medals, officials noted the need for more targeted investment in Olympic-specific disciplines to bridge the gap with top-tier nations.

South Korea failed to meet its target of 40-45 gold medals, marking its lowest gold medal count since 1982. In Southeast Asia, Thailand led the region with 18 gold medals, followed by Malaysia with 9, Indonesia with 5, and the Philippines with 4. Vietnam ranked fifth among Southeast Asian nations.
