Vietnam identified as strategic bridge between Asia and Latin America

Patricia Ráez Portocarrero, the Peruvian Ambassador to Vietnam, has identified Vietnam as a strategic bridge connecting Asia with Latin America. In a recent interview, she highlighted the growing opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, technical exchange, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

The ambassador noted that Vietnam’s foreign policy, particularly following the 2025 Resolution 59-NQ/TW, has elevated diplomacy to a level equal to national defense and security. This strategic shift aims to drive socioeconomic progress by attracting technology and diversifying markets.

Trade between Vietnam and the Latin American and Caribbean region has seen significant growth, increasing from $11 billion in 2015 to nearly $42 billion over the last decade. Both nations are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and APEC, which provides a strong foundation for further economic integration. Portocarrero also emphasized the potential for South-South cooperation, noting that both countries share experiences in transitioning from aid recipients to providers of technical knowledge and capacity building.
