Vietnam police warn of identity theft and VNeID scams

Vietnamese law enforcement agencies have issued urgent warnings regarding sophisticated cybercrime tactics targeting citizens' personal identification and social insurance data. Police in Dong Nai and Hai Phong reported that scammers are impersonating officers to claim that citizen identity card (CCCD) or VNeID electronic identification data is incorrect. These criminals use high-pressure tactics, threatening to lock public service accounts to force victims into providing sensitive information via Zalo or Telegram.

In Hai Phong, authorities identified a fraudulent website, “bcavneid,” designed to mimic the official Ministry of Public Security VNeID interface to steal personal data, bank details, and OTP codes. Additionally, the Ministry of Public Security warned of malware disguised as social insurance (VssID) applications. Scammers send malicious “.apk” files via Zalo, which, if installed, allow criminals to remotely control mobile devices and drain bank accounts.

Separately, authorities noted a “movie commission” scam on social media platforms where victims are lured into depositing money for fake tasks. Officials advise citizens to only use official government portals, download applications from legitimate stores like CH Play or App Store, and never provide OTPs or click suspicious links.
