Vietnam industrial production grows 11.9% in first eight months of 2026
Vietnam’s industrial sector showed significant growth in the first eight months of 2026, with the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rising 11.9% year-on-year. This represents the highest growth rate for this period in several years. In August alone, the IIP increased 1.5% month-on-month and 14.4% year-on-year.
Manufacturing and processing served as the primary driver, expanding 12.5% during the eight-month period and contributing 9.6 percentage points to the overall industrial growth. Other notable sectors included metal production, which surged 22.4%, beverage production at 16.4%, and motor vehicle manufacturing at 15.9%. The mining sector also recovered with an 8.1% increase, while electricity production and distribution grew by 10.1%.
Complementing the IIP data, the S&P Global Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) for August rose to 53.3 points, marking the 14th consecutive month above the 50-point threshold. This indicates sustained expansion in the manufacturing sector, driven by increased production and new orders. Additionally, total import-export turnover for the first eight months exceeded $770 billion, with exports increasing by over 22%.
