Vietnam integrates R&D into education to master strategic technology

Vietnam is shifting its educational approach toward mastering strategic technologies by integrating research and development (R&D) directly into the training process. This new model moves away from traditional methods where students learn before working, instead allowing them to participate in real-world R&D tasks alongside scientists and engineers to foster practical expertise.

This approach aligns with Resolution 57-NQ/TW, which emphasizes the unified development of strategic technology and human resources. The resolution calls for universities and research institutes to become strong research entities that combine study, application, and training, while allocating at least 15% of the state science budget to strategic technology research.

In practical application, Duy Tan University has introduced two AI-driven products to support this digital transformation: HeyDT, an intelligent interactive AI assistant, and DTU AI Exam Hub, an AI-powered examination platform. HeyDT utilizes Large Language Models (LLM) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to assist students and faculty, while the Exam Hub automates the entire testing process, including question generation and multilingual assessment.
