Vietnam intensifies crackdown on counterfeit medical goods and trade fraud
Vietnam is intensifying efforts to combat counterfeit goods, trade fraud, and intellectual property violations. The Ministry of Health has issued a directive to provincial authorities to strictly inspect and handle medical product violations, noting that perpetrators are using increasingly sophisticated methods to exploit loopholes in production and distribution.
Authorities are focusing on high-risk distribution channels, warehouses, and e-commerce platforms. Inspections will target the production, transport, and storage of fake or low-quality medical products, as well as the illegal sale of prescription drugs.
In parallel, Customs Department Area II reported significant enforcement actions, having processed 5,191 violations with a total value exceeding 6,491 billion VND as of September 30, 2026. The department is increasing controls on transit, temporary import-re-export, and the smuggling of gold, currency, and narcotics. Plans are in place to heighten anti-smuggling and anti-counterfeit operations leading up to the 2027 Lunar New Year.
