Vietnam intensifies disaster preparedness in Hanoi and Hue

Authorities in Vietnam are intensifying disaster preparedness measures across several regions to mitigate the impact of extreme weather. In Hanoi, officials have prioritized the safety of lives and property by mandating proactive evacuation plans for residents in high-risk areas, including those vulnerable to storms, heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides. Priority is being given to children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The city has also ordered the protection of essential infrastructure, such as hospitals, schools, and defense installations, while ensuring that food, medicine, and clean water remain available in isolated areas.

In Hue, local governments are preparing for a predicted increase in tropical storms and depressions in the South China Sea between September and November. Following several instances of heatwaves and storms earlier in the year, local wards like Thuan Hoa and Hoa Chau are implementing area-specific response plans. These include deploying watercraft to reach flooded zones and organizing the evacuation of vulnerable populations. Residents are being encouraged to stockpile essential supplies for three to seven days to prepare for potential isolation during flood events.
