Vietnam internet speeds enter global top 10 for mobile and fixed broadband

Vietnam has achieved a significant milestone in digital infrastructure, with both its mobile and fixed broadband internet speeds entering the global top 10 for the first time, according to the Speedtest Global Index.

Mobile internet speeds in Vietnam have seen rapid growth, jumping 10 places from 20th to 10th in the world. The average mobile download speed reached 205.58 Mbps, which is nearly double the global average of 109.73 Mbps. This surge follows a period of intense improvement, where speeds rose from approximately 54.17 Mbps in September 2024 to 134.19 Mbps by January 2025, allowing Vietnam to surpass technological powers such as the United States and China in mobile rankings.

In the fixed broadband sector, Vietnam has climbed to 7th place globally, maintaining a median download speed of 307.11 Mbps. This progress is attributed to long-term strategic investments in digital infrastructure and increased competition among telecommunications providers. The country's digital ecosystem is further supported by a growing network of 42 commercial data centers and a high IPv6 adoption rate, which ranks second in Southeast Asia.
