Vietnam issues food safety warnings for 16 provinces after floods
The Vietnam Food Administration has issued an urgent directive to health departments in 16 northern and central provinces to strengthen food safety measures following Typhoon No. 4 and subsequent flooding. The affected provinces include Lang Son, Cao Bang, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
Authorities are instructing residents to follow strict hygiene practices, such as the “eat cooked, drink boiled” principle, using only treated or clean water, and washing hands thoroughly. Citizens are warned not to consume food that has been submerged in floodwaters, contaminated, or spoiled. In flooded areas, water must be filtered, disinfected according to medical guidelines, and boiled before use.
Local authorities must also increase inspections of food production facilities, catering services, collective kitchens, and relief food distribution points. Particular attention is being paid to high-risk foods affected by flooding, power outages, or improper storage. Any unsafe food must be promptly detected, recalled, and destroyed to prevent further contamination or use in relief efforts.
