Northern Vietnam faces widespread heavy rain and flooding risk June 14‑16

The Vietnam National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasts warned that from the evening of 14 June through 16 June the mountainous and mid‑land regions of northern Vietnam will receive prolonged heavy rainfall, with local totals exceeding 200 mm in some areas. The rain‑storm system is expected to bring strong thunderstorms, hail, frequent lightning and strong gusts.

Authorities highlighted the danger of flash floods in low‑lying urban and industrial zones, as well as landslides on steep slopes. The agency issued a high‑risk alert for rapid‑intensity rainfall that could exceed 100 mm within three hours. Local governments in the affected provinces have been instructed to activate flood‑response plans and prepare for potential evacuations. Temperatures in the north remained above 35 °C before the rain, intensifying heat‑related stress.

The forecast also noted that the central and southern regions would experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, but the most severe impact is confined to the northern mountainous districts.
