Vietnam issues national technical standards for EV charging stations
Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Circular No. 61/2026/TT-BCT, establishing the national technical regulation QCVN 32:2026/BCT for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and pillars. The regulation, which takes effect on July 1, 2027, provides a unified legal framework for the production, assembly, import, and operation of charging infrastructure.
The standards cover AC, DC, and combined AC/DC charging pillars, requiring compliance with safety protocols regarding electric shock, overloading, short circuits, and electromagnetic compatibility. For charging stations, the regulation mandates specific requirements for electrical safety, fire prevention, site layout, power supply systems, and data management.
To support the transition to green transportation, the regulation ensures that charging locations are compatible with land use, local infrastructure, and traffic flow. Existing legally installed charging pillars may continue to operate, but owners must review safety compliance within six months of the effective date and complete any necessary rectifications within 24 months.
