Vietnam issues resolution to develop strong maritime nation
General Secretary and President Tô Lâm has signed Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which outlines the strategy to develop Vietnam into a strong maritime nation.
The resolution sets a target for 2030 to establish a modern, unified, and science-based national maritime governance system. Key objectives include completing 100% of functional marine zoning by 2030, effectively managing and utilizing marine resources, and mastering deep-sea and far-sea development.
The strategy emphasizes the integration of maritime development with national defense, sovereignty, and jurisdiction. It aims to build a highly competitive modern maritime economy while protecting the marine environment, restoring ecosystems, and improving the livelihoods of coastal and island communities.
